Anupong
Chantorn (b. 1980)
Anupong Chantorn’s practice draws upon Buddhist narratives and
traditional Thai imagery to examine morality, faith, and contradictions within
contemporary society. Through surreal combinations of human and animal forms,
he reveals the tension between spiritual ideals and human impulses shaped by
desire, fear, and self-interest.
Rendered with
meticulous detail and symbolic intensity, his works invite reflection on the
ways religious belief can be interpreted, performed, or exploited. Rather than
rejecting faith itself, Anupong questions the conduct and social structures
that may obscure its essential principles.
