Home-Sawan Umansap (b. 1982)

Home-Sawan Umansap’s practice brings together Buddhist philosophy, Isan folk traditions, and a fluid painterly language influenced by Chinese and Zen brushwork. Drawing inspiration from regional mural painting and pha phra bot devotional banners, he reinterprets sacred imagery through contemporary forms, vivid colour, and spontaneous movement.

Figures, deities, animals, flowers, and fragments of the natural world drift through his compositions as symbols of transformation and the interconnectedness of life. Rather than illustrating Buddhist teachings directly, the artist allows spiritual ideas to unfold through intuition, humour, imagination, and the expressive energy of his brushstrokes.

Across Shape of Heaven, The One and Only, and The Way of Enlightenment—three solo exhibitions presented at Number 1 Gallery between 2019 and 2021—Home-Sawan developed a visual language he describes as “Contemporary Isan Folk Art,” connecting inherited beliefs and local cultural memory with the experience of contemporary life.

ผลงานของห่มสวรรค์ อู่ม่านทรัพย์ ผสานปรัชญาพุทธศาสนา ศิลปะพื้นถิ่นอีสาน และภาษาจิตรกรรมอันลื่นไหลซึ่งได้รับอิทธิพลจากฝีแปรงแบบจีนและเซน เขานำแรงบันดาลใจจากจิตรกรรมฝาผนังพื้นบ้านและผ้าพระบฏมาตีความใหม่ ผ่านรูปทรงร่วมสมัย สีสันสดชัด และจังหวะการเคลื่อนไหวอย่างเป็นอิสระ

บุคคล เทวดา สัตว์ ดอกไม้ และองค์ประกอบจากธรรมชาติล่องลอยอยู่ภายในภาพในฐานะสัญลักษณ์ของการเปลี่ยนแปลงและความสัมพันธ์เชื่อมโยงของสรรพชีวิต ศิลปินมิได้ถ่ายทอดหลักธรรมอย่างตรงไปตรงมา หากเปิดพื้นที่ให้ความคิดทางจิตวิญญาณปรากฏผ่านสัญชาตญาณ อารมณ์ขัน จินตนาการ และพลังของรอยฝีแปรง

ในนิทรรศการ Shape of Heaven, The One and Only และ The Way of Enlightenment ซึ่งจัดแสดง ณ Number 1 Gallery ระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 2562–2564 ห่มสวรรค์ได้พัฒนาภาษาทัศนศิลป์ที่เรียกว่า “ศิลปะพื้นบ้านอีสานร่วมสมัย” เพื่อเชื่อมโยงความเชื่อดั้งเดิมและความทรงจำทางวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่นเข้ากับประสบการณ์ของชีวิตร่วม
