Number1Gallery proudly presents “Naughty by Nature ” by Thanrak Sangsuwan , Having established a cult following as a cartoonist under the penname of Ma-Deaw Sri Lhan-Yai-Prik, which roughly translates as ‘Grandma Prik's Grandson’, artist Thanrak Sangsuwan transforms his mainstay illustrative character into painterly expressive canvases.
Previously Thanrak studied at the College of Fine Arts in Ladkrabang, and in 2007 held the solo exhibition Poz & Me at Art Republic in Bangkok. Mischievous in intent, Thanrak’s visual alter ego subverts the cute kawaii graphic-art style into something more sinister. Questioning what instills goodness in our genetic make-up, Thanrak’s visual approach holds a certain affinity to the art of Yoshitomo Nara.
