“Tales of Battle” is a third solo exhibition of Nattiwut Choomanowat participating with Number1Gallery. This time artist represents the remarkable art works in a form of “Appropriation Art” which inspired by his experiences and his own true stories through the knowledges on histories, Greek mythologies including the aesthetic expression of artist himself towards each works. Moreover, it is expressed about the real effect behind all these arts particularly art equipments, their prices and a lack of interested audience in Art field. For instance, high cost of art implements which has been a big effect to work processes of artists because the main weapon of every artist is his own equipments and a decreasing number of audience who interests in arts which has been affected to artists as well because the less audience the less opportunity of buying art works for artist’s living.

“In Greek mythology has once said, Cassiopeia queen of Aethiopia boasts about her daughter Andromeda that she is the most beautiful in this sea. And ‘Poseidon’, god of the sea sends a sea monster Cetus to destroy the coast of Aethiopia. To send Andromeda to the sea monster is the only way to solve the situation and eventually she is saved from death by Perseus.”

Artist describes and creates the works in a different way under the story of Greek mythology as we are able to see it in “A Knight Shining Armor”. Pegasus is Perseus’s vehicle. It is signified a technique lines drawing as basic as creating art works. Furthermore, it is an important thing for every artist and the artist’s way. According to Greek mythology, Perseus holds the head of Medusa while fighting against monsters and artist indicates this weapon as a sale art equipments advertising brochure. It is comparative to the real difficulty that every artist has faced against and fight for it. Every achievement is supposed to be paid for meanwhile every problem needs to be solved as well but depending on each artist to find their own way to go through it and accomplish their goals for what they love. The artist has another level of perspectives on each problem with comparison and an irony as it is an opening up to the world in a different way and enjoy with life.

Nattiwut Choomanowat graduated bachelor degree and master degree from Silpakorn university. The artist has been creating works and exhibiting constantly. For example “The Twelve Labours of Hercules ” in 2018, “The Art of Survival” in 2019 and additionally he had joined group exhibitions such as “HUMAN-19” in 2020 and “The spirit of Six” in 2019 at Number1Gallery. Besides he had participated an international exhibition for instance “Art Expo Malaysia 2019” and Art Fair Philippines in 2020.

“Tales of Battle” นิทรรศการเดี่ยวครั้งที่ 3 ของณัฐิวุฒิ ชูมะโนวัฒน์ กับนัมเบอร์วันแกลลอรี่ ศิลปินนำเสนอผลงานจิตรกรรมที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ ด้วยรูปแบบ Appropriation Art หรือศิลปะการหยิบยืม เป็นการนำเสนอผลงานที่ประกอบสร้างจากวิถีชีวิตของศิลปิน โดยใช้ข้อมูลทางประวัติศาสตร์ นิยายปกรณัม ผนวกกับอารมณ์ความรู้สึก ถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวที่สะท้อนเบื้องหลังที่ส่งผลกระทบในการทำงานของศิลปิน โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในเรื่องของอุปกรณ์สร้างสรรค์งานศิลปะ ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่มีราคาสูง เป็นปัญหาที่ส่งผลเกี่ยวเนื่องกับการทำงานศิลปะของเหล่าบรรดาศิลปินอย่างมาก เพราะอุปกรณ์เหล่านี้เปรียบเสมือนอาวุธคู่กายชิ้นสำคัญของศิลปินทุกคน หรือปัญหาการขาดแคลนผู้ที่สนใจในศิลปะ จนเป็นเรื่องยากที่จะขายงานศิลปะเป็นอาชีพเพื่อความอยู่รอด

“ตามตำนานกรีกได้กล่าวไว้ว่า ราชินีแคสสิโอเปีย (Cassiopeia) แห่งอาณาจักรเอธิโอเปีย (Aethiopia) ได้คุยโวโอ้อวดเกี่ยวกับความงามที่เป็นหนึ่งในแถบท้องทะเลของเจ้าหญิงแอนโดรเมดา ผู้ซึ่งเป็นธิดาของตน เทพเจ้าแห่งท้องทะเลจึงส่งอสุรกายยักษ์ ซีตัส (Cetus) มาทำลายบ้านเมือง หนทางเดียวที่จะหยุดเหตุการณ์นี้ได้คือต้องส่งเจ้าหญิงแอนโดรเมดามาสังเวยแก่ปิศาจทะเลซีตัส หากแต่ในที่สุดเธอก็รอดชีวิตด้วยความช่วยเหลือจากเพอร์ซิอุส (Perseus)”

ศิลปินได้หยิบยกเรื่องราวจากตำนานกรีกนั้นมาสร้างสรรค์ขึ้นใหม่ในบริบทที่แตกต่างออกไป ดังที่เห็นในภาพ “A Knight in Shining Armor อัศวินขี่ม้าขาว” ม้าเพกาซัส (Pegasus) พาหนะเดินทางของเพอร์ซิอุส ถูกแทนค่าด้วยเทคนิคการวาดเส้น ซึ่งคือพื้นฐานของการสร้างงานจิตรกรรม จึงเป็นสิ่งสำคัญใช้เดินในเส้นทางศิลปะสำหรับจิตรกร ตามตำนานเพอร์ซิอุสจะถือศรีษะของเมดูซ่าเพื่อใช้ต่อสู้กับปีศาจ หากแต่ศิลปินได้แทนที่อาวุธเหล่านั้นด้วยใบโฆษณาลดราคาอุปกรณ์ศิลปะ เปรียบเทียบให้เห็นถึงสิ่งที่จะช่วยศิลปินเผชิญหน้าและต่อสู้กับอุปสรรคต่างๆ ได้ และเพราะทุกความสำเร็จ มีราคาที่ต้องจ่าย หากแต่เรานั้นจะแสวงหาวิธีแก้ไขอย่างไร เพื่อไม่ให้ปัญหาเหล่านั้นมากระทบหรือสร้างอุปสรรคต่อสิ่งที่เรารัก ศิลปินได้เปลี่ยนมุมมองด้วยการเปรียบเปรยและหยอกล้อกับงานศิลปะ เป็นการมองโลกในแง่มุมที่แตกต่างและสนุกสนานไปกับการดำเนินชีวิตนั่นเอง

ณัฐิวุฒิ ชูมะโนวัฒน์ จบปริญญาตรีและปริญญาโท จากมหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร โดยศิลปินได้สร้างสรรค์ผลงานออกมาอย่างต่อเนื่อง ไม่ว่าจะนิทรรศการเดี่ยว “The Twelve Labours of Hercules เฮอร์คิวลิสกับภารกิจ 12 ประการ” 2018, “The Art of Survival” 2019 และยังเข้าร่วมแสดงงานนิทรรศการกลุ่ม “HUMAN-19” 2020, “The Spirit of Six” 2019 ทื่ Number1Gallery, Hotel Art Fair ปี 2019 นอกจากนี้ยังได้เข้าร่วมแสดงงานในเวทีระดับนานาชาติ เช่น Art Expo Malaysia 2019 และ Art Fair Philippines 2020
